In today's mobile society, even the most elegant restaurants must be prepared for the takeaway crowd. Today, smart restaurateurs can easily order and pay for takeaway food with the help of apps, smartphones and online ordering systems. However, this means restaurants must have a steady supply of to-go food boxes.
To-got food containers have come a long way from the bulky white styrofoam boxes of the past few years. In recent years, the demand for new and improved travel food containers has provided us with a variety of sizes, shapes and materials.

  To-go food boxes: paper containers
Paper takeaway containers are most commonly associated with Chinese takeaway food; However, paper containers can be used for many different types of food because they can be used in the microwave without negatively affecting the container or contents. Unfortunately, just like foam containers, paper will retain moisture and hot food will get wet. Also, unlike foam containers, paper containers are not heat-resistant, and if they contain very hot contents, they can be uncomfortable to hold directly. Environmentally speaking, paper is a biodegradable material, making it a tassier takeaway solution than foam for the eco-conscious.

  To-go food boxes: plastic containers
We can see many forms of plastic causing problems for the environment, but there's no doubt that it makes great takeaway containers. A number of plastic-like biodegradable materials have been developed in the past few years that can create excellent, environmentally friendly options for takeaway containers compared to regular plastic containers. However, customers should be aware that while frugal people tend to clean and reuse plastic containers, not all plastic containers can be reused.
There are pros and cons to heating plastic food in the microwave. Harvard Medical School discusses these ideas in an article titled "Microwave Food in Plastic: Dangerous or not," and more or less gives the green light to reheat food in plastic containers under certain conditions.
If you want to reuse plastic containers, check the recycling number on the bottom of the container. That little number says something about what type of plastic it is, what chemicals it's made of, and how safe it is to reuse.

To-go food boxes: aluminum foil boxes
Foil boxes are a cheap alternative to takeout containers. True, they can't be used in microwave ovens, but unlike foam, paper and plastic containers, they can be safely used to heat up in ovens. Aluminum foil has good heat transfer; Pans heat up quickly, but they also cool quickly, making them easy to handle. Unfortunately, aluminum foil has a high carbon footprint and is not an ideal choice for takeout containers from environmental concerns.
Whether they're made of foam, aluminum foil, paper or some form of plastic, disposable takeaway containers are controversial. Producing them involves too much energy, water and raw materials, and adds to the cost of transportation. When used, they can become a problem for recycling, littering and landfills. As a result, people are more actively exploring reusable solutions than ever before.

Ultimately, the best delivery container for your restaurant will depend on the type of food you serve, the price and your concern for the environment. If you're looking for higher-end appeal, you should steer clear of foam and tinfoil boxes in favor of attractive, green to-go food boxes. However, as your takeaway business grows, it's important that you have enough food containers on hand for takeout.
